The PEI Alpine Ski Team Race Team Program is for athletes ages 12-17 as of Dec. 31, 2021.
Learn to Race
Learn to Race is the second phase in building a strong racer which is focused at the Under 14 & Under 16 age groups. It is followed up by the Train to Race phase which is focused on skiers over the age of 16. The focus of the Learn to Race phase is to train start to finish, as fast as possible, without falling and without supervision while demonstrating excellent technical skills. Develop specific fitness skills for ski racing, build the engine and refine event specific racing skills. The focus of the Train to Race phase is to optimize the engine for ski racing competition, master event specific racing skills and learn winning strategies.
Skiers in these phases of training will race according to Alpine Canada age classification.
The program consists of approximately 8 weeks of dry-land training and 10 weeks of on-snow training. Additionally, there will be approximately 4 to 6 off-island races and 2 or 3 off-island training camps (in a typical season).
Occasionally skiers do not join the team until they are in the upper age groups and therefore have not yet mastered the fundamentals of the Learn to Train program. If this is the case the skier will train with similar age skiers but will progress through the development phases as laid out in the Aim2Win program.
